Dear
Friends of the Burgwardts and of Pedaling History Bicycle Museum,
Within the next few weeks a grant application, sponsored by the
City of Buffalo, is being filed for the goal of moving our museum
into the Buffalo Inner Harbor Historic District. Attached to this
application must be letters of support of our mission, the telling
of Buffalo’s dramatic bicycling heritage in a historically
appropriate site. We sincerely hope, and would appreciate, that
you could furnish to us a letter to support our grant application
to NYSDOT for funds from their Transportation Enhancement Project.
Our planned usages are explained in the enclosed sample letter below
that can be cut, pasted or modified or added to your best sentiments…
and returned to us on your letterhead - attached to an e-mail, snail
mailed or even hand delivered.
(Feel free to also forward this request to additional supporters)
Thank you for your efforts on our behalf. This is one of those
ASAP requests; to be most effective it is needed by June 15th, if
possible. No one says they’ll read any or all of them but
an impressive number of supporting letters will certainly impress
someone.
Sincerely, Carl & Clary

Date RE: Pedaling History Bicycle Museum Inner Harbor Relocation
Dear
Carl and Clary,
We are aware that you are applying for funds from NYSDOT’s
Transportation Enhancement Project (TEP) to secure the original
footprint site to recreate a likeness of the George N. Pierce &
Company bicycle manufacturing building at Buffalo’s inner
harbor. We support your request for the maximum of allowable funds
needed to secure and perpetuate this history for future generations.
The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation’s Project committee
has undertaken the historic preservation and re-creation of the
entire site of the original Erie Canal terminus and this would be
a significant part of suitable critical mass for achieving and maximizing
this as a great tourism destination. This proposed building you
seek to house your collection would present a closer appearance
of historic Buffalo to this whole grid.
Your magnificent collection and museum’s educational and preservation
mission is already recognized worldwide with great acclaim and it
deserves to be brought back to the original Buffalo site where some
of it was manufactured. Your work in tourism has already attracted
visitors from around the world showcasing researched authentic information
about how the bicycle was a real pillar and catalyst of all of our
local, national and international personal transportation history.
For many years you have created and made a true historic jewel in
WNY with your personal funds but now the museum could be a wonderful
on-going centerpiece in Buffalo’s waterfront development that
may soon be designated as a “Scenic By-way.”
Sincerely,
Your
